After graduation from UT, I did the corporate gig for about 10 years in Austin, but finally decided I needed to do something a little more fun. I've been married for 15 years to Cyndi Rutherford-Godwin from TJ and we have a 7 year old ski bum named Samantha. We spend as much time as is possible exploring the backcountry of Idaho. Well, after school I was in the Army for several years, then came back home in 88 and went to Lamar. I went to work for the Orange County Sheriff's Office & Police Academy (graduated #1 if you can believe that!) in 89. I left there in Jan.' 94 as a Detective Sergeant and went to work for Bridge City PD. Better money and benefits (at the time) took me to Vidor PD in Aug. 94, and I've been there ever since. Michelle (Morton) and I have been married for almost sixteen years, and we have an eight year old daughter Madeline. If the last name throws you, I was Roy (a step-father's name) but changed back to my birth name of Harris. Some of us even go back that far that you might remember me as Harris. I was in a near fatal car accident in April of 1997 where I was hospitalized for 6 weeks in Houston but I have recovered completely and am very thankful to God for allowing me to continue my life. I spent 20 and a half years volunteering in the Bridge City department, over 4,000 hours of specialized training in fire related classes. I retired in 2007. Durring those years, I went to Lamar where I became a State Certified Firefighter/EMT. I found a interest in teaching and educating people in Safety. I married Kim in 1989 after dating for 5 years. I married her for her money and I aint leaving till I get it. I landed a job as an Airport Firefighter for about 8 years where I became a State Certified Instructor in both Aircraft Crash Fire Rescue and Municipal fire fighting. I then left it and went into driving a Eighteen Wheeler Tow truck for 10 years. Lots of hard hours and sleepless time spent there. I returned to Lamar Institute of Technology where after 7 years of part time school, I graduated with a degree in Occupational Safety and Health. With a lot of support from my wife Kim and a lot of hard work, I landed a great job with a lot of responsibility. Kim and I raise two spoiled kids who don't want to leave home. Guess I'll have to buy an RV and burn down the house. Life has been tough, but good, everything has come from hard work sleepless nights and a BiG BLESSING FROM GOD. I've learned a valuble lesson in life (After loosing a younger brother and Neice) and that is your friends are your greatest asset, keep them close. I'm currently a stay-at-hom Mom due to a car accident in January 2003. I have 3 herniated discs in my back. I spend 3 days a week at the doctor's office, trying to heal my body without surgery. My granddaughter, Kenzi is growing up too fast. She is beautiful and smart. I LOVE that BABY!!! Looking forward to our 20 year reunion. It's hard to believe its been that long ago. I completed my Bachelor's of Social Work at SF Austin University in Nacogodoches after high school. I then worked for a couple of years in Dallas, then finished my graduate degree in social work at the University of Texas at Austin. Like many UT grads, I never left the area after I graduated. I worked for seven years at an acute care psychiatric hospital, then stayed mostly home for six years with my children. I developed a small business working for some psychiatrists in this area. After my youngest started kindergarten, I continued my business, but also went back to my first love, working with emotionally disturbed adolescents, on a part-time bases.
